home two hands

two handsTwo Hands is one of Australia’s most decorated wineries, making its most sought after wines. The ‘two hands’ are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz wines from prized Shiraz producing regions within Australia.

Michael Twelftree’s background includes years of exporting Australian wine to USA and Asia, while Richard Mintz is a former CEO of one of Australia’s leading cooperages in the Barossa Valley. The two old friends set out in 2000 with just 17 tonnes of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the start, the wines were well received with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating with Robert Parker’s 2004 declaration of Two Hands as ‘the finest negociant operation south of the equator’.

Two Hands concentrates its efforts on sourcing the best fruit from the best Shiraz vineyards in Australia, working with its growers on achieving the full potential from each individual site. The results speak for themselves.

Castello di Ama logo

Castello di Ama peopleCASTELLO DI AMA was established in the 1960s by a group of families from various places who fell under the spell of this spot and undertook the challenge of restoring the splendours of Ama’s past and of producing a Chianti Classico that would stand among the world’s most prestigious wines.

Castello di Ama Vineyard 10Located about 12 miles northeast of Siena in the hills of Gaiole. This is the heart of Chianti Classico, a bucolic rolling landscape of woods, vineyards and olive groves. Historically this is Etruscan country. The first references to the region’s wines date back to 998. In the 11th century, Ama was the beneficiary of several privileges granted by the Holy Roman Emperors Henry VI and Otto IV. The Castello di Ama later became part of the holdings of the Firidolfi family. It was destroyed during the 15th-century Aragonese invasion. In the early 18th century, the remains of the fortress were restructured into two residences, owned by the Pianigiani and Ricucci families. In his 1773 famous “Relazione sul Governo della Toscana”, the Grand Duke Peter Leopold, Governor of Tuscany, describes the region of Ama with great admiration, as a magnificent area with deep winegrowing roots.

Ego Bodegas
Ego, Talento and Infinito are the three identifying words that have been able to make this possible; three words that define what we want to transmit.

The founders have been bound to the wine world for more than a decade; it may seem a little time compared to other wineries, but long enough to feel fascinated by the magical combination of the soil the native grape variety, the Monastrell. They have devoted themselves to construct a project whose cornerstone is to count on the best vineyards of the area in order to obtain the best possible fruit to create the liquid that, as Socrates said, transports us to a sweet happiness.
